Watch Tony Duncan's Performance at the Heard Hoop Dance Championship

At the Heard Museum's annual World Championship Hoop Dance Contest, held February 8-9 in Phoenix, Derrick Suwaima Davis was judged the top hoop dancer in the world for the second consecutive year. That's stiff competition, as Tony Duncan well knows -- Duncan came in second to Davis, as he had the previous year. Going up against Davis, the now seven-time title holder has to be a daunting task.

Without a doubt, though, Duncan (Apache/Arikara/Mandan/Hidatsa) -- who won the competition in 2011 -- is one of the standard-bearers for hoop dancing, having appeared in Nelly Furtado's music video for "Big Hoops" and subsequently accompanied her on tour. He's also a leading flute player, having received the 2013 NAMA Artist of the Year award as recognition of his work with his group Estun Bah and his solo album, Earth Warrior.

Here's Tony's runner-up performance from the 2014 Heard contest. To fully appreciate Duncan's masterful hoop work, we recommend clicking the button in the lower right corner of the video to expand it to full-screen view.
