Dynamic Chickasaw citizen Margie Testerman’s Footprints Still Whispering in the Wind marks the initial publication for the Chickasaw’s White Dog Press.

Testerman’s book of poetry features artwork of young Chickasaw artists. Artists, ages eight to 16, were each given one of Testerman’s poems to read and draw inspiration for pieces of artwork to reflect the poem.

The Chickasaw artists include Lauren John, Trevor John, Josh Tingle, Kaitlyn Tingle, Cydnee Miller, Maryanne Criswell, Trevor Clark, Jesse Clark, Mason Marris, Faithlyn Seawright, Keilyn Factor, Levi Hinson, Noah Hinson, Lauren Burden, Michah Postoak, Mekko Postoak, Chelsea Wedlow and Erick Jordan Greenwood Stick.

Testerman started writing poetry in the seventh grade and has since written poetry for more than three decades.

“Poetry comes easy for me,” Testerman said. “I am inspired by the natural world.”

Testerman grew up in Cushing, Okla. After her husband’s passing, she took a teacher’s aide position at a local school.

At age 41, she entered college. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education in 1977 and went on to earn her master’s degree in education in 1984. She retired from teaching in 1993.

Upon retiring, Testerman picked up her passion for poetry again. Her poetry is influenced by her Chickasaw ancestry. It features nature, dance and childhood memories.

She is a member of the Society of Poets and is active in a number of civic organizations.
