Khloe Kardashian Disrespects Native Culture For North West's B'day Party

We once asked "What do the Kardashians have against Indians?" -- and photos from North West's birthday party have us again pondering the same question.

Us Magazine reports that North, the daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, celebrated her first birthday party with a "Kidchella" themed affair at Kardashian sister Kourtney's house. Kidchella, like Coachella for tykes, inspired its guests (well, those who know what Coachella is, which would not include the birthday girl) to get all Coachella'd up.

And so, since Coachella and non-Native girls in feather headdresses are a thing, it was possible -- likely -- that some Kardashian would sport the hipster headdress. And one did. Khloe Kardashian donned a feather headdress, sat cross-legged (or was it "Indian-style") next to a tiny tipi, and approximated the lotus position, a meditative pose associated with the other kind of Indians

On Instagram, she captioned the picture "Ray of clouds. Chirping of birds. Gurgling of water. Granting desire. One with water. #Kidchella my first Coachella!!!"

Half-sister Kylie Jenner also posted a picture of Khloe in her outfit to Instagram:

Khloe's photo met with criticism from some Instagrammers who found it disrespectful. They were of course slammed by Kardashian fans who feel they should lighten up. It's fair to debate this, but here's something to consider: Khloe's picture has 369,000 likes (and counting); Kylie's has 623,000 likes and counting. Love 'em, hate 'em, or don't care, the fact remains that any little thing the Kardashians do reaches a massive audience. More people consume a Kardashian or Jenner Instagram picture than consume all of the Internet's Native news sources combined. Debate is fair, but hundreds of thousands of Kardashian devotees gleefully shouting down a few Native voices isn't much of a debate.

As celebrities these people have the choice -- and one wishes they'd feel some responsibility -- not to spread ignorance to followers who will defend them and seek to emulate them. We can't say how many Kardashian fans now think Native Americans meditate in the lotus position, but we'd bet it's more than a few.

Yesterday, Khloe posted the below image to Instagram. Although she did not specifically reference her party costume, it may have been a comment on the controversy -- regardless it's a comment on the persecution complex that rich and unthinking celebrities so often feel. Other Instagram users have showered it with 526,000 likes (and counting):

What is a Celebrity ? .................................................................................... ......................................................................................................................... A Celebrity is a Person who's does Day to Day Activities, but has a Camera following them and photographing the activity............................................ ......................................................................................................................... The subject(s) call themselves "Reality Stars,(Actor's)" sic, without training or meaningful acting of a "Story" being told................................................................ ..................................................................................................................................... Not being a celebrity, I've heard the "Trade Talk" of Actors refer to it as a " NAR", No Acting Required - similar to a "Walk On, Walk Off; without a true event being told, or capturing a moment in time as it passes them by................ ..................................................................................................................................... So, a Celebrity really is nothing to be envious of, because many things they do are "shallow behavior" & "Look At Me !" cries for attention................................... ...................................................................................................................................... As to the "Kidchella" labeling of a toddlers birthday celebration, it appears to be modeled after the "Coachella Valley Music Festival" in Coachella,California where there were "Camping TiPi's" set up for Rental's while in attendance of the Festival.................................................................................................................. ...................................................................................................................................... As to the "sincerity" of "The Costume", because it certainly wasn't "Regalia" in its truest form, it carries as much weight as a "Clown Costume" with a "silly" theme of a Non-Indian................................................................................................ ...................................................................................................................................... As to to the "instagram" above, it is evidence that the author has no "Literary" skills, knowledge, or abilities to convey meaningful thought to another human being............................................................................................................................ ...................................................................................................................................... As to Likes & Dislikes of the Picture & instagram - well, we have a lot of "Sheepeople" in America, and counting !!!!!!!!....................................................... ...................................................................................................................................... A "Pow-Pow" has more "Reality Acting and Story Telling" then this families "Reality Show", even in a Coachella Music Festival reduced to a "Childs Birthday" celebration........"Happy Belated Birthday Kid"....................................... ......................................................................................................................................

Now first I want to say I do not watch this or like them. Next I want to know who made the Head Dress? If we are going to report let's get to the truth and the root of the problem. I can go on like right now and find at least 100 Native American stores saying the head dresses they sell are Native American made.. Each of these sights will have no less than 20 or more and will make to order for the whole of the public. And they are not cheap. So tell me who is really showing disrespect is there is any? You can not make and sell to the public and think they will not wear them. Frankly once you have sold them they are owned by whoever to do whatever they please with and you know that.

This business of, rejection, not considered equal, and inferior in food, culture, color, religion everything of our being is something that goes back hundreds of years. The hate died a little with the intellectual awakening of music, inventions, social thought in the mid to late 1960s. Today, I read on average less than 25 pct of all Americans support the name change of Redskins. We need to look elsewhere means to rise from the ashes because "they" don't give a crap about us in this country. We are meaningless as a people. Your other choice is worship their pop culture, pretend to be like them, sound like them, even worship their Gods. I fought with unwitting extreme bravery in Vietnam just for some lip service from a few Americans and almost all of them will never truthfully say they think nothing of my mother, father, grandparents and all my ancestors. "Tupac Amaru Shakur" got it right, his last words to a police officer's lip service was F.U.!!

They are sorry people whose main objective is to make money by the prostitution of themselves and others. They should be ignored whenever possible. If enough people ignore them they might just go away along with a few other shameful "reality" moments. Can we get that lucky?

The Kardasians are only famous because there is an abundance of willfully ignorant people with too much time on their hands. What I'm MORE concerned with is the tendency of White people to "play Indian." What is behind this phenomena? Sure, Johnny Depp made it cool to play pirate for about three months, but where else do you find people pretending they are members of a culture that still exists? ________________________________________________________ It is said that the most adept warriors choose the battles they'll fight, and fight the battles they'll win. For this reason, I'll stay true to the Change the Mascot movement, but every rich, little White girl to don a headdress stems from ignorance and idiocy and mankind has battled those throughout history!

At a recent White House dinner for correspondent, a comic made a comments about the Kardasians' polticial party affiliation being Republicans, because they screw Blacks. That is a true statement even though it is supposed to be a joke. Some of us intelligent Native Americans take these so-called reality celebrities as uneducated, no morals, shoot-from-the-hip idiots, and we, as Native Americans know better than the are and shouldn't concern ourselves with their stupidity. Let them and their so-called fans who are just as dumb as they are fall flat on their face and then we will have the last laugh.

The only thing that is 'real' about the so called reality show celebrity Kardashian family is their shallow attitude. Shame on them for disrespecting the sacred headdress.
