Video: Yukon's Peel Watershed Is Imperiled, and Here's Why You Should Care
A historic moment is taking place before the Supreme Court of Yukon this week, as First Nations and environmental groups argue their case for preservation of the Peel River Watershed.
This pristine wilderness is now open to mining and other industrial development thanks to a ruling by the Yukon government in January 2014 on land use that directly defies plans made by other agencies—plans that were hammered out by treaty between those agencies and the First Nations who live there.
