Imagine walking into the local coffee shop and ordering a cup of coffee made with ingredients from a local indigenous community or a tea with ingredients from another. That’s exactly what Advocafé is providing its customers in Malate, Manila.
According to an article by the Manila Bulletin Publishing Corporation, the café is promoting the culture of indigenous communities throughout the Philippines in more ways than one. Not only can you get coffee that the Igorots grow in the Cordillera Region, but calamansi juice from the Mangyan tribe of Mindoro, and teas planted by the Tagbanua tribe of Palawan.
But just trying these indigenous treats isn’t the only cultural benefit, as each purchase a customer makes benefits the schooling of underprivileged children from several of the indigenous communities according to the Bulletin.
