January 15, 2011
As reported by American Indians in Children's Literature, three books by Native Americans have made the 2011 list of notable books presented by the Association for Library Service to Children. They are:
Black Elk's Vision: A Lakota Story, by S.D. Nelson
Saltypie, by Tim Tingle
Trickster, various Native American authors, edited by Matt Dembicki
You can see the full list at the American Library Association website.
(UPDATE: Thanks to commenter debreese below who points out that Matt Dembicki, editor of Trickster, is not native. The storytellers featured in the book, however, are. In the interest of clarity, we have changed the text of this post.)
