Richard Plass, one of the foremost educators on the how logos and mascots depicting American Indians, is bringing his exhibit to the University of Wisconsin-Manitowoc on October 26-28.

Scotty Seal of HtrNews.com reports that Plass, a Menominee/Stockbridge-Munsee from northern Wisconsin, has a collection of posters, shirts, artwork and various other materials to help illustrate the issue.  Plass is a published poet, educator, actor, activist and musician.

Plass's exhibit is called "Bittersweet Winds," which he told Seal, will become, in itself, a museum on "the history, for better and for worse, of the image of the Native American."

Plass's "Bittersweet Winds" is part of a larger series the school's putting on called "Native Americans in the Media." It includes Dr. Christopher Stone screening the movie, "Reel Injun," with discussion to follow, on October 25 from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Tickets to the series of three events are $30 for the general public.

If anyone wishes just to view the "Bittersweet Winds" exhibit, which will be shown Oct. 26-28, the cost is $10 for adults and $1 for children. UW-Manitowoc students are admitted free with an ID.
