Australia has joined Canada in recognizing an political party for its indigenous population. The First Nations Political Party, supported by 2,500 citizens, will cater to the interests of the aboriginal people; although they make up just 2.5 percent of the country’s overall population, in the Northern Territory they comprise 32 percent of the population. “It will give people an alternative to the two wishy-washy parties that have dealt with my people since 1901 and delivered policies of self-destruction and systematic genocide,” said party organizer Japarta Ryan.
