Confederated Tribes of Umatilla to Host Alcohol/Drug Awareness B-Ball Tourney
Rosters and entry fees for the Umatilla Tribe’s 2011 Basketball Against Alcohol & Drug Tournament (BADD) are due by March 4th for the games being held from March 19th to the 25th on the Umatilla Indian Reservation, in Pendleton, Oregon. The BADD Tournament is sponsored by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR) Recreation Program.
This spring break tournament has drawn more then 60 teams and involved more then 100 games in past years at the Nixyáawii Community School Gymnasium. The Pacific Northwest states of Oregon, Washington and Idaho are expected to return for this year’s tournament. The tournament is broken up by age groups, with the 6-8-year old co-ed teams playing on Saturday, March 19th; the 9-11 girls and boys playing on March 20th and 21st, 12-14 girls and boys on March 22nd and 23rd, and the 15-18 girls and boys on March 24th and 25th.
The divisions each have a limit of eight teams, save the 15-18 boys, who will field a 12-team bracket. All divisions save for the 6-8 co-eds will be double elimination brackets.
The BADD tournament isn’t just about basketball, of course. Each player and coach will take part in an alcohol and drug information session held at Yellowhawk Tribal Health Center.
