Less than a month after a commemorative event in her honor, Gabrielle Giffords has announced she will resign this week to focus on her recovery.

Giffords broke the news on January 22 in a video she shared throughout her social media network of Twitter, Facebook and YouTube according to Reuters.

On January 6-8, events were held throughout her area of Southern Arizona, to honor her rehabilitation from the attempted assassination last year.

In her resignation video, she states, “I will return.”
