Oklahoma has the third most federally recognized tribes within its state lines. So it is a bit surprising hearing the latest figures from the Census bureau.
The figures released today show there are more Hispanics in Oklahoma than there are American Indians.
There are 3.75 million residents in Oklahoma and almost 9 percent identify as Hispanic or Latino, narrowly edging out American Indians at 8.5 percent of the population.
American Indian population rose 18 percent from 2000 to 2010.
