A surfer unable to ride the rough waves because of Hurricane Sandy discovered bones Monday on a rocky section of beach on Hutchinson Island in Florida, reported CBS 12 News.

After inspection by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office and consultation with an archaeologist, it is believed the remains are from a sacred historic Miccosukee Tribe burial ground.

The remains are believed to be the same ones that were reburied by tribal leaders after hurricanes unearthed them in 2004. The exact location of the find is not being revealed to protect the remains from artifact hunters.

The remains are now in the custody of the county medical examiner until they can be reburied.
