Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Student Selected for Costa Rica Internship

Cedric Fairbanks, a first-year Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe student at Leech Lake Tribal College in Cass Lake, Minnesota, will spend eight weeks this summer conducting research on mammal behavior and tropical biology in Costa Rica.
He was accepted into the 2012 summer internship by the Organization for Tropical Studies through its Native American and Pacific Islander Education (NAPIRE) program. NAPIRE provides a graduate-level research experience to about 20 undergraduate students each year.
Once he’s done at Leech Lake Tribal College, Fairbanks plans on continuing his studies at a four-year college and pursuing a career in an environmental science-related field.
