Oklahoma State Tourism Launches Genealogy Web Tool
This could help a number of people looking for Native American ancestry since there are 39 federally recognized tribes in the state.
“We'll point you to research libraries that contain copies of the Dawes Rolls if you are tracing Native American ancestors, county courthouses that contain original land patents for pioneering settlers who made the land runs into Oklahoma and interment lists for many Oklahoma cemeteries,” the site states. “We'll help you find friendly genealogical and historical societies with a wealth of firsthand knowledge about the records and resources of their counties.”
The site has the information separated out by county on a clickable map like the one seen above.
The site also offers detailed maps of all the counties in Oklahoma, as well as a map of Civil War points of interest, and a list of genealogy articles.
