Pokagon Band to Open New Casino Tuesday
Tomorrow the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians opens the doors to its second gaming facility, The Four Winds Hartford in Southwest Michigan, reported mlive.com. Another Four Winds location, opened in 2007, operates in New Buffalo, about 45 miles away.
The new 52,000-square-foot satellite casino in Hartford—about one-sixth of the size of the main Four Winds Casino—will feature 500 slot machines, nine table games and a second location of the popular Timbers Restaurant, according to the casino's website.
The gaming dense area means stakes are high. Nearby FireKeepers Casino, which opened in 2009 near Battle Creek, offers 2,680 slot machines and 78 table games, and Gun Lake Casino has 1,400 slot machines and 28 table games.
Four Winds Hartford's upper leg? It's new, so people who live nearby will try their luck, reported mlive.com.
Still, Hartford will draw the slot mavens, not the big players, Jacob Miklojcik, president of Lansing economic development consulting firm Michigan Consultants, reported mlive.com. It’s an “average Joe’s casino,” he told the online newspaper.
