Alison Owings, author of Indian Voices: Listening to Native Americans, recently shared her reflections on Native American Heritage Month in a blog for the Huffington Post. Mostly that the majority of the population of the United States ignores "the buffalo in the room." That buffalo being the fact that we didn't start out as "a nation of immigrants," but as "trespassers."
