The Sanford School Committee board voted 4-1 on Monday to change the name of the local high school's sports teams after the Maine Indian Tribal State Commission and several representatives from Maine tribes lobbied to have the name "Redskins" removed.
The Boston Globe reports that Sanford was the last high school in the state with a Redskins nickname. The committee expressed to school administrators that they would work with students to come up with suggestions for a new nickname.
