Seminole Hard Rock to Serve 120 Pounds of Turkey on Thanksgiving as Part of its Campaign to Fight Hunger
The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida is challenging their neighbors to help them fight hunger in their local community this holiday season through a variety of philanthropic initiatives that will benefit local charities.
On Thanksgiving Day, Hard Rock Cafe will prepare and serve 120 pounds of turkey, as well as stuffing, mashed and sweet potatoes, vegetables, cranberry sauce, rolls with butter and pumpkin pie to feed over 200 individuals at LifeNet4Families Broward from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
The South Florida casino is additionally partaking in the Hard Rock International’s 5th Annual IMAGINE THERE’S NO HUNGER Campaign, which will benefit WhyHunger, an organization that supports innovative community-based organizations across the country that are reaching out immediately in times of need as well as implementing long-term, sustained solutions to the on-going crisis of hunger and poverty.
The name and message of the campaign are inspired by John Lennon's iconic song "Imagine" that asks the listener to picture a world free from hunger. IMAGINE THERE'S NO HUNGER is a global campaign to combat childhood hunger and poverty through the backing of sustainable agriculture education and feeding programs for children and families in need.
For the fifth year, artist and musician Yoko Ono Lennon is generously lending her support to Hard Rock International and WhyHunger for IMAGINE THERE’S NO HUNGER.
Now through December 31, Hard Rock locations around the globe will offer limited-edition IMAGINE THERE’S NO HUNGER items in support of WhyHunger and its grassroots partners worldwide, working to advance long-term solutions to hunger and poverty by supporting community-based organizations that empower individuals and build self-reliance.
IMAGINE THERE’S NO HUNGER merchandise includes a men’s tee, a women’s tee, and an IMAGINE bear with 15 percent of the proceeds benefiting WhyHunger. Additionally, 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of the campaign’s Lennon inspired pin (online only) and red bracelet ($1 donation) will benefit WhyHunger. All items are while supplies last and are available exclusively at Hard Rock’s Rock Shops and www.hardrock.com.
Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood will donate 200 limited-edition IMAGINE bears to the local children’s charities Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies, Russell Life Skills & Reading Foundation, Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward’s Christmas Toys in the Sun Run and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital through the WKIS Country Radiothon. Employees of Seminole Hard Rock will also donate non-perishable food items as part of the hotel and casino’s food drive to help fight hunger in our community.
During the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s “Tree Trimming” holiday event to be held on Thursday, December 6, a dozen 12-foot-trees, each representing a South Florida charity, will be artfully decorated to tell the story of its community need and origins. The tree that most warms the most public hearts through a voting process will garner a $5,000 cash donation to its cause. Each voter will be entered into a prize drawing and will receive one additional entry for every five non-perishable food items donated to help fight hunger in our community. Kids are invited to vote for their favorite tree. Guests must be 21 years of age or older to receive an entry and participate in drawing.
Hard Rock Cafe will host a “Battle of the Bands” concert on Friday, December 28 at 8 p.m. Local bands Styrofoam, Fire Brigade and Ground Control will compete for a chance to perform at Seminole Paradise Center Stage on the evening of an upcoming Hard Rock Live concert. The band that raises the most non-perishable food donations and monetary donations and sells the most IMAGINE THERE’S NO HUNGER bracelets, wins. The event will benefit LifeNet4Families and WhyHunger.
Hard Rock Cafe will also be collecting non-perishable food items in November and December. In addition, a LifeNet4Families Giving Tree will grace the inside of Hard Rock Cafe and the hotel Rock Shop in the month of December. The tree will be dressed with special ornaments detailing “giving” suggestions of monetary and non-perishable food donations that will be used to feed homeless and underprivileged families in need.
Hard Rock Live attendees will also have the opportunity to lend their support. On show days, campaign merchandise will be available for purchase inside the arena, and an IMAGINE THERE’S NO HUNGER photo backdrop will allow guests to pose for a purpose. On Saturday, December 9 and Saturday, December 16, the photo backdrop will be located in front of Hard Rock Cafe. A minimum donation of $10 to WhyHunger is requested. Each photo will be posted on the Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood Facebook page.
Hard Rock fans all over are encouraged to share their thoughts and IMAGINE experiences via social media by sending messages, photos and videos to the official channels for the 2012 IMAGINE THERE’S NO HUNGER campaign at Facebook.com/HardRock or Twitter.com/HardRock utilizing the hashtag #IMAGINENOHUNGER.
