Joba Chamberlain, Winnebago, the intimidating, 6-foot-2, 240-pound pitcher, avoided arbitration with the powerful Chamberlain by signing him to a one-year, $1.675 million deal, the New York Times reports.

This qualified as a small raise for Chamberlain, who earned $1.4 million in his injury-shortened 2011 season.  Chamberlain underwent Tommy John last June 16, after starting the season 2-0 with a 2.83 ERA.  Chamberlain's career record is 20-13, with a 3.70 ERA in 193 games.  He will likely miss at least half of next season as he rehabs his throwing arm, hoping to return after the All-Star break.
