The Poarch Band of Creek Indians Hold Their 41st Annual Thanksgiving Pow Wow
It has been a long standing tradition in Atmore, Alabama, for the Poarch Band of Creek Indians to hold their beautiful pow wow on Thanksgiving day (we've provided a video of last year's pow wow above). One of the aspects of this incredible pow wow that make it so special is the Warriors Tournament—a one-on-one pow wow dance competition in a bracket-style tournament.
Along with the Warriors Tournament the pow wow will also include the crowning of the Indian Princess, more dance competitions, great food, and incredible drumming.
The Poarch Band of Creek Indians are descendants of a segment of the original Creek Nation, and unlike so many southeastern tribes, they were not removed from their tribal lands. Thanksgiving day is a perfect time for these proud people to host their annual, 41-years-in-the-making pow wow.
