The Wilderness at Fortune Bay Named Top 100 Greatest Public Golf Course
Golf Digest has recently included The Wilderness at Fortune Bay at number 40 in their ranking of the top 100 public golf courses in the country. This was the first year The Wilderness has been included in Golf Digest's 45-year old ranking. Located near the spectacular Lake Vermillion on granite ridges in Tower, Minnesota, The Wilderness has been named a top 50 resort by Golf World's reader choice awards, as well mentioned in Golf Digest's "Best Places to Play" and Golf Week's "Best Courses You Can Play" in 2009 and 2010 respectively.
Golf Digest's rankings are based on the course evaluations of more than 1,000 volunteer panelists, using criteria the magazine has perfected over the course of its long life. The criteria includes resistance to scoring, shot values, design variety, aesthetics, ambience and conditioning. In press release announcing the inclusion into Golf Digest's list, General Manager of The Wilderness, Tom Beaudry, said, "It is truly an honor to be associated with a property that continues to receive accolades even after having been open for seven years. It speaks highly to the foresight the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa had when they developed this course and compliments the entire resort."
The Wilderness at Fortune Bay is owned by the Bois Forte Band of Chippewa and is considered the best golf resort in Minnesota. The Bois Forte Reservation is located about 45 miles south of the Canadian border, and is divided into three sections—Nett Lake, Vermillion, and Deer Creek. The Wilderness at Fortune Bay is located on the Vermillion grounds.
