UN Preparatory Caucus Meeting March 19-20
This weekend the Blue Lake Hotel & Casino, Blue Lake, Calif., will accommodate 200 indigenous peoples from more than 80 tribal nations from throughout North America for the North American Indigenous Peoples’ Caucus Meeting (NAIPC).
The event will be held March 19-20 and is hosted by the Seventh Generation Fund for Indian Development (SGF), an Arcata based indigenous non-profit.
The meeting is a representation of tribes to discuss critical issues, explore common ground, and establish a collective platform of action for strategic work at the United Nations.
This event is an international indigenous peoples’ preparatory meeting for the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII).
“NAIPC is a very important meeting for the Indigenous Peoples of North America,” said Tonya Gonnella Frichner, Onondaga, North American Regional Representative to the UNPFII (2008-2010) and SGF vice chairperson. “It is where this year’s priorities and strategies are collectively formed and given to deliver to the Permanent Forum.”
The UNPFII 10th Session will take place May 16 – 27 in New York at the United Nations headquarters.
