Video: 1,300-Person Idle No More Flash Mob in Seattle
A good 1,300 people gathered in Seattle for a “spontaneous” flash mob round dance in support of Canada’s Idle No More movement recently, one of dozens that are sprouting up all over the world in support of northern Turtle Island’s peoples.
From Seattle to Michigan and beyond, flash mobs are erupting into peaceful round dance demonstrations to protest Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s legislation and the overall treatment and conditions of aboriginals in Canada.
The demonstrations have been peacefully jubilant, according to reports. Although one in Grand Traverse, Michigan, recently caused security to ask people to leave, according to the local-news website MichiganLive.com, another in Grand Rapids drew hundreds of onlookers on December 23.
The flash mob in Grand Rapids involved more than 300 American Indians, MichiganLive.com reported, all to support Canada and increase awareness of what is going on there.
“We want to educate the community and the public about what is going on in Canada and as Native people we are all related through our tribal nations,” said Nathan Isaacs, a musician who helped organize the event, to MLive.com.
Meanwhile, 1,300 showed up for a flash mob in Seattle on December 22. Beating drums, chanting and singing traditional songs, the flash mobbers filled the hallways with music against the backdrop of designer makeup, shoes and a multitude of other retailers.
