Javier Sicilia is a Mexican poet whose adult son was one of thousands of victims of Mexico's drug violence. He is leading a caravan across the U.S. to urge Americans to do more to help stop the killings south of the border. He arrived in Phoenix this week and led a candlelight vigil with about 100 people. He says the U.S. must take more responsibility for its role in fueling violence, both by stopping the flow of weapons into Mexico and reducing drug use.
While he was in Phoenix, Sicilia met with controversial Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio for an open dialogue about the conditions of the jails where illegal immigrants are kept. Parts of that dialogue are in the video below.
