On October 27 undefeated boxer Marcus Oliveira, Menominee Nation, will fight Ricky Torrez in Caracas, Venezuela for the vacant WBA Fedebol light heavyweight title.

Oliveira, 23-0 with one draw, is from Keshena, Wisconsin, but fights out of Lawrence, Kansas now. In his last fight, he easily handled Antwun Echols in January, scoring a third-round TKO. The fight was something of a homecoming for him, as the bout was hosted by the Menominee Resort Casino in Menominee, Wisconsin.

Although his upcoming fight won’t be on home turf, Oliveira is confident.

"I am in tremendous shape and am really looking forward to traveling to Venezuela to fight for a title,” he tells ICTMN. “I plan on making this a one or two round fight and bringing the WBA light heavyweight title back to the Rez as quick as I can.”

Oliveira’s opponent is a crafty Bolivian fighter with knockout power who’s on a two-fight winning streak. Overall, Torrez is 18-5-1 with 10 knockouts. But Oliveira is hitting his stride and has shown real progress in the ring.

"I feel like I am maturing and getting better...smarter as a fighter.  My coach Erik Riley knows me really well and helps break down fight plans.  Plus I have a new strength and conditioning coach, Cody Wilson, who is doing great things for me physically that I've never done before.  We are improving in every area inside and outside of the ring."

A win in Venezuela should set Oliveira up for a bout with a top contender or one of the current world champs, likely IBF light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud, back in the U.S. early next year.
