Video: Mohawk Nation Singers Take Part in Lunar New Year Celebration
Kontiwennenhawi and Bear Fox of the Mohawk Nation performed as part of a multicultural celebration on January 26 to celebrate the Lunar New Year at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.
The group was sandwiched between a Vietnamese fashion show and a performance by a North Korean traditional marching band.
Before beginning their performance, one member of the group told a short version of the Mohawk Nation’s Grandmother Moon story, a story that would typically take hours or days to tell properly.
One of the songs the group sang gives thanks for all the waters of Mother Earth, from the oceans, down to the dew on the grass.
