Navajo Code Talkers Heading to New York City for Veterans Day Parade
Eight World War II Navajo Code Talkers from New Mexico are scheduled to participate in the New York City Veterans Day Parade, the Associated Press reports.
Southwest Airlines is flying the veterans Friday to New York so the men can take part in the Sunday parade.
Officials say before leaving Albuquerque the Navajo Code Talkers will interact with customers in a Sunport gate and during the flight to share their history.
The Code Talkers sent thousands of messages without error on Japanese troop movements, battlefield tactics and other communications, in World War II.
Now, eight Navajo Code Talkers are coming to the Big Apple to grace the annual Veterans Day Parade, which is still scheduled as planned after the devastating Hurricane Sandy and subsequent Nor'easter. The march begins at about 11 am and runs along Manhattan's 5th Avenue.
