Native peoples ceded over 98% of their homelands to ensure certain rights and privileges with the United States government. It is time that we live up to these obligations, and it is time that we begin to teach our children why it is that N ative people have certain "rights and privileges" guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. These rights and privileges are our tie to our past. not so ancient, and were hard won by our ancestors fighting against systematic genocide. Not dramatic, the truth. I never talk politics on here, ever, but I ask all of you to think about what it is you believe in while you read this article, what is your passion? Keeping alive our tradition, culture and languages is ours.. Please teach your children the accurate history of US/Native realations, and if you need a couple of good books, i have recommendations. Calleen, I commend you for putting up the good fight, and fighting for our sovereignty...its only as strong as we keep it!
