This sound like an excellent idea. As an alternative to the dollar should it entirely collapse, we could always pay for things in chickens. I realize this sounds facetious, but it isn't intended to be. I'm quite serious. Well, maybe not always chickens, there are many other things that fit into the role of the chicken, but self-sufficiency and barter systems are really the only way to deal with a complete collapse of paper or electronic financial systems. If there really is a wide-spread meltdown, all the ones and zeros in the electronic banking system are worthless, that paper money might be good for starting a fire, but chickens always have value. You can eat them. If all the funding evaporates, but every community has the means to feed and shelter themselves without it, we'll be okay.
