For those of us with roots in Wabanaki country, there's another perspective, albeit still conquest. But we had the experience of meeting both English Puritans and French Jesuits. The Puritans gave us musket balls, and the Jesuits gave us Christianity deftly portrayed as a better understanding of our own monotheistic religion. The French mostly wanted to trade, the English mostly wanted to take land and farm it. Life is never one-faceted.
