I agree, excellent article! I am an enrolled member of a tribe, and its true, the Tribal governments do come out as big winners. I do not live on the reservation and neither do my children. Because of that, my children can't get on the roll. My mother, their grandmother was full blooded Native American. My tribe requires that you have to live on the reservation for five years in order to be considered to be eligible. There are no good job opportunities on or in any town near the reservation. It's like my tribe is continuing the governments position of keeping Natives on reservations and helping in the extinction of my mothers' tribe. In fact, I think they should just get rid of roll numbers and go by lineage. We're the only race that still has to have a number after their name to prove our ethnicity. The last people to have a number after their name was the Jews! Tribal governments are repeating history and helping with the extinction of our people by not recognizing natives just because of their location. After I die my children aren't even eligible to claim my mothers land. Dina, your article hit the nail on the head!
