Actually, UM does have several Native tenured faculty, however they were hired in the 1990s. It has been a long time since UM has hired Native faculty.
The Missioulian article was focussing on the fact that UM has never hired a Blackfeet tenure-track faculty member, and that it is making an effort to hire new Native faculty members, because it has been a long time since they have hired Native faculty.
Great article though!! to focus on new tenure-track faculty and the great variety of fields -- chemistry, pharmacy, journalism and environmental studies -- Native professors are more diverse than ever!!
