This sounds all nice and neat on paper. BUT the reservation I live on is a horror story. PATHETIC. Judges who are high school graduates, who can barely speak English. Who issue orders and then rescind them the same day. A chief judge, and other staff judges who have ex-parte contact with both parties. Even the out-side white judge will follow along with tribal politics, and side against prejudiced parties. An order of protection hearing turned into hearing where the wife was awarded property from the ex-husband. THIS WAS AFTER THEY HAD BEEN DIVORCED for over 6, that's SIX months. Awarding children to unemployed, alcoholic parents. The sad thing about all of this is the tribal attorney/council refuses to get involved.
