Chuck Trimble – March 25, 2011 Once again, I am forced to address my elder, Chuck Trimble’s above comments regarding “breaking the chains of Indian victimhood. I cannot understand his long stated determination that our tribal youth are killing themselves “supposedly over some latent grief over the mistreatment of their ancestors." For once I would like him to name just one of our tribal youth who has, or is killing themselves over the mistreatment of our ancestors. His take or understanding of inter-generational abuse is just wrong. I have debated this subject with him through our emails, and I have tried to explain that Indian Victimhood is a fallacy, and that the true issue is about what is termed as “the cause and effects of the inter-generational cycle of abuse." This is what is effecting our native youth, not historical trauma as Mr. Trimble believes. I should also ask Mr. Trimble why he doesn’t say “our ancestors, instead of their ancestors”, unless he no longer considers them his ancestors too.
