13 Indigenous Grandmothers Gather to Save Mother Earth at the Birthplace of the Buddha

When the International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers first formed their alliance in 2004 they vowed to travel to each other’s countries, and now it is Grandmother Aama Bombo’s turn. She will host the 12th Council Gathering for Peace from November 8 to 11 in Kathmandu, Nepal.
“November of 2012 is on the cusp of what some believe will be the Great Awakening, when the Mayan calendar finishes its cycle in December,” says the Grandmother’s indiegogo page. “In Grandma Aama Bombo’s tradition, this year of 2012 marks the transition from the Age of Destruction to the Age of Truth.”
The Grandmothers are inviting everyone to join them in their prayers to save the planet.
“No longer relegated to the footnotes of history, grandmothers are finding their voices and their power to protect their traditions and their healing practices, in an effort to ensure the survival of the world for their children, their children's children, and for the next seven generations to come,” the page says.
The Grandmothers have raised more than $100,000 for their trip to save Mother Earth, but they need another $90,000 to ensure themselves, their travel companions and translators are able to make the trip.

Next year, it will be Maori Grandmother Pauline Tangiora’s turn to host in New Zealand.
After the council gathering in Nepal, the Grandmothers have created a Nepal Sacred Sites and Wilderness Expedition from November 13 to 20. The expedition will include a jungle safari, river rafting, a tour of numerous sacred sites, and a trek into the Annapurnas, a section of the Himalayas, for $2,500.
