On New Year’s Eve, the Idle No More movement and the efforts of Attawapiskat Chief Theresa Spence were honored with a Round Dance at the 2nd Annual Wambli Ska Wacipi in Rapid City, South Dakota.
One young lady, Arissa Good Shield, 16, Lakota-Winnebago, misspelled “Idle” as “Idol” resulting in shock and surprise from her sisters. Good Shield’s error didn’t seem to bother her as she continued to dance her way in the circle, grinning as she went.
Good Shield later said of Chief Spence’s hunger strike, “I think she is brave.”
