On Saturday, the highly anticipated film Jimmy P. premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, one of the premiere showcases of international cinema. In the movie, Benicio Del Toro plays a Blackfeet Indian who is a troubled World War II vet. The supporting cast includes several Natives. Two of them -- Michelle Thrush, Cree, and Misty Upham, Blackfeet -- realized a dream of many film actresses when they walked the red carpet at Cannes and fielded questions from an international cadre of entertainment journalists.

It is great to see native artists in movies.

Is Del Toro going to come under the same criticism/questions as Depp for playing an Indian in this film or has this simply been an issue of tweeking some films and not others. Or maybe I missed which Tribe Del Toro is from? Where is the cultural outrage? Ron Andrade
