Native Players at Stealth-Knighthawks Lacrosse Game

If you want to see some top-quality Native lacrosse, try going to a Rochester Knighthawks game. The team currently has six players on its active roster—goalie Angus Goodleaf, defenseman Sid Smith, and forwards Alex "Kedoh" Hill, Cody Jamieson, Johnny Powless, and Craig Point—who compete for the Iroquois Nationals. (A seventh Nationals player, Tom Montour, is currently listed as inactive by the Knighthawks.)

ICTMN contributor Chris Stearns shot these photos at a game the Knighthawks played against the Washington Stealth—a team with two Iroquois Nationals, Dean Hill and Brett Bucktooth—on January 5th in Everett, Washington. On that evening, the Stealth edged the Knighthawks 13-12. But the Knighthawks got revenge in the rematch, outlasting the Stealth 7-6 in a game played February 2 in Rochester.

The Knighthawks won the 2012 National Lacrosse League Championship—for more on the team's nucleus of Native talent, see our story "Rochester Knighthawks win National Lacrosse League Championship on Strength of Aboriginal Stars".
