Red Nation Rocks the Roxy

In the run-up to the 2011 Grammy Awards, some of the hottest Native stars gathered at the Roxy on the Sunset Strip, in Los Angeles, for the 13th annual Red Nation Celebration Pre-Grammy Concert. On stage, performers better known for their acting showed off their musical talents; Into the West’s Elizabeth Galesi, Apache/Lakota/Cheyenne, sang as Sage, while Joanelle Romero, Apache/Cheyenne, of Pow Wow Highway fame performed, backed by Blues Collective, a band that includes prolific actor Noah Watts, Crow/Blackfeet, and 16-year-old drummer Montaño Rain, Apache/Cheyenne. Pawnee/Seminole rapper Quese IMC, who has opened for Snoop Dogg and Gnarls Barkley, also took the stage. The event was emceed by twins Shauna and Shannon Baker, Carrier-Déné models who are bringing Native beauty to the fore.
The evening also served as a launch party for the newly formed Native Music Matters program and the National American Indian & Indigenous Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. 0
