SPEC Derek J. Gagne, Hannahville Potawatomi, hasn’t let an Improvised Explosive Device that hit his Humvee in 2007 slow him down. Gagne, who was seriously injured is back to playing sports and started racing street stock cars, but most importantly he helped change a law that dealt with veteran’s pay.

Col. Thomas Brewer, Lakota, has endured being shot multiple times during The Bone Yard battle on October 12, 2003, rioting and looting in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and is recently recovering from surviving a rocket-propelled grenade attack in the Kabul region of Afghanistan in December 2011. Through it all he’s been a true warrior.

Twenty-five year old Army Staff Sgt. Jordan Logan Bear, of the 82nd Airborne Division was killed in a retaliation attack by several Afghanis following the accidental burning of the sacred book of Islam, the Koran, on February 20.

Sgt. Jimmie Begay, 88, a Navajo code talker walked on February 1. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps when he was 17 in 1942 and received the Congressional Silver Medal in 2001.
