The five-day 44th Annual National Indian Education Association Convention and Trade Show was not all work. Thousands of educators as well as many locals came to Rapid City, South Dakota for the event. Some schools even came into Rapid City for a Student Summit held in Rapid City’s Central High School, and on Thursday night a Halloween Pow Wow got everyone moving.

Wilmer Mesteth led the pow wow as head dancer and offered prayers and songs. A Lakota Victory song, said to have been sung forever, engaged all dancers in a circle that accelerated as the song continued. The event was exciting, moving and for the some of the youth who painted half masks on their faces, a lot of fun.
