Treasures From the Past, Stories From the Present at Penn [14 Images]
On Saturday, March 1, an exhibit called "Native American Voices: The People—Here and Now" will open at the Penn Museum in Philadelphia. It's an exhibition, in that it's a showcase of Native culture and history that includes over 350 items from all over Turtle Island, but it's also an experience, with interactive elements and multimedia presentations. Here we're spotlighting a number of the pieces on display from Native history, but the show has an undeniable contemporary flair as well. Visitors will learn not just about Native life and art in eras gone by, but also hear perspectives on contemporary issues from present-day artists, professionals, and activists. Contemporary art will also be on display, and Saturday's opening event (11:00 AM to 4:00 PM) will feature music, dance, crafts, workshops, and children's activities.
