Three Affiliated Tribes of the Fort Berthold Reservation, North Dakota
Chairman Tex Hall says he wants state officials to make changes at the intersection of North Dakota Highways 8 and 23 east of New Town. A Mountrail County road known as the Van Hook road also connects to the intersection south of Highway 8. The intersection has been the scene of multi-vehicle crashes that killed one person and injured others in recent weeks. 'I want to push for a redesign,'' Hall said. He suggested a turning lane for slower traffic. Darryl Hall, the Three Affiliated Tribes traffic safety manager, said he would like to see flashing yellow lights on Highway 23 and flashing red lights on Highway 8 and the county road known as the Van Hook road, installed at the intersection. He also said the speed limit should be lowered to 50 mph at the intersection.
