Pala Band of Mission Indians to build 500-room hotel
The Pala Indian band intends to build a 500-room hotel next to its San Diego County casino to attract gamblers and keep them there longer. Members of the tribe, located near Fallbrook, have agreed to hire architects and a contractor. Construction on the $70 million project is to begin this summer and will take about one year. Pala operates the largest of four Indian casinos on or near state Route 76 between Fallbrook and Valley Center. Customers from San Diego and as far away as Los Angeles have said they would spend a night or a weekend if Pala had a hotel, said Jerry Turk, Pala Casino managing partner. Two other tribes are building hotels in the area that are scheduled to debut later this year. The Rincon reservation's hotel near Valley Center will have 200 rooms, and one on the Pechanga reservation near Temecula will have 522.
