No praise for Ford

Letters to the Editor | January 12, 2007

It is hard to imagine Indian Country Today praising President Gerald Ford, when he is the man who signed the into law the destructive and inhumane legislation that called for the removal of the Navajo and Hopi families from the Big Mountain area and the erection of a barbed-wire fence to segment their land. American Indians died in the cities, became dispossessed, homeless, and had their families destroyed by this act. This modern Indian removal is one of the more heinous acts of the American government in the second half of the 20th century.
