Close to his heart: European visits S.D. every year to study Indian history
Kai Dudde was born and raised in Germany, but his heart and soul belong to South Dakota. He wears a silver eagle feather on his collar and a beaded, fringed pouch at his waist. "In Germany, I'm a moody guy. I don't smile much," he says, grinning broadly. "When I come back to South Dakota, I remember what it's like to be back home. I have roots here. I come back to recharge."
