Cayuga cigarette case returning to court
Lawyers will return to Cayuga County Court early next month to discuss whether or not the Cayuga Nation participated in wholesale untaxed cigarette transactions, and if so, how those alleged transactions would impact three sealed indictments secured by the Cayuga County District Attorney’s Office. After reviewing the state Court of Appeals’ 4-3 decision released in the Cayugas’ favor last May, Cayuga County Judge Mark Fandrich noted in a letter to attorneys dated Sept. 16 that the decision focused on retail-level sales and does not mention wholesale level transactions.
