List Reflects Indigenous Concerns
Native American and other indigenous concerns figure prominently, although not by name, on the list of must-watch environmental issues released Jan. 3 by the U.S.’s top environmental school.
“We can continue our short-sighted addiction to fossil fuels or we can adopt innovative, healthier, more sustainable practices,” said Jeff Shields, dean of Vermont Law School. “The Environmental Watch List will help improve public understanding of how to use the law to take action on the critical issues of our time.”
Issues including climate change, greenhouse gases, the BP oil spill disaster, solar energy and wind power, all of them well on the radar of indigenous groups, all make the list.
The full report “evaluates 10 judicial, regulatory, legislative and other actions that significantly affect humans and the natural world,” according to the school’s press release.
