The 2011 Grammy for Best Native American Music Album went to 2010 Gathering of Nations Pow Wow: A Spirit’s Dance; a similar album, Gathering of Nations Pow Wow, which was also recorded live at the massive annual event in Albuquerque, won the first Grammy in the category in 2001. “We laid real low,” says Derek Mathews, one of the album’s producers. “We kept our expectations at a pure minimum, because we never expected to even be nominated.”
