30th Annual Plains Indian Museum Powwow

On June 18 – 19, 2011, the 30th Annual Plains Indian Museum Powwow kicks off at the Robbie Powwow Garden, an outdoor, grass amphitheater, next to the RV parking lot at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming.

The Grand Entry starts on both Saturday and Sunday at noon, and the pow wow runs until 9pm on Saturday and 6pm on Sunday.


The 30th Annual Plains Indian Museum Powwow showcases the vibrant music, dancing,drumming and artists from the Northern Plains tribes.  The competitive dance categories are traditional, jingle dress, fancy, grass, team dancing, tiny tots, and chicken dance. There's more than $30,000 in prizes.

There will also be a Powwow Learning Tipi which will be run by Gloria Goggles, a Lakota educator from Fort Washakie, Wyoming. Goggles will help visitors discover the traditions of powwow, and younger visitors can try on powwow clothing and become familiar with the dances as well as a learn powwow etiquette.

There will be a plethora of art on hand. Indian jewelry, bead and quillwork, clothing, basketry, pottery, paintings, sculpture are just some of the items the more than 40 vendors will have on display.

Admission prices are as follows: Adult (18 and older) $7; Youth (7 – 17) $3; children under 6 free. Powwow admission is separate from Buffalo Bill Historical Center admission. Tickets may be purchased at the gates only (no advance sales) and are valid for one day. No charge for Native American visitors to Powwow. No senior or group discounts; press passes are available with prior arrangements.
